Claire Cooper

Director of CC Providing Supportive Solutions

I am a qualified teacher with a BA (Hons) Humanities degree and have been involved in education for over 30 years. For the last 9 years I have successfully been providing these Supportive Solutions for many Schools and Services. My teaching career began at a secondary school in Kent where I taught history up to and including GCSE and ‘A’ Level. Before developing and co-running the Autism Outreach Service for a Local Authority, I was Head of Year 11 at a large Medway secondary school.

My educational journey has resulted in me not only working with children, young people and adults with Special Educational Needs and Disability but also working with those who provide services for them and their families.

Having trained in the TEACCH Autism Program intervention approach called ‘Structured TEACCHing’ I was instrumental in introducing this across many schools for a local authority.  Also, as a ‘Language 4 Learning’ tutor I delivered this to school staff so that the needs of those with Speech and Language and Communication needs can be better met. In addition, I am an ADOS –2 assessor (Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule) having been trained at The Tavistock. This semi-structured assessment of communication, social interaction and play has been referred to as the ‘gold standard’ observational assessment for diagnosing ASD.

I have been a Team Teach trainer since 2008 and hold my own AOL license as a Senior tutor. I provide the accredited and award winning, Level 1 and Level 2 Team Teach Positive Behaviour Management training.  Those supporting children, young people and adults can face challenging situations when individuals become distressed. The focus is de-escalation and reducing the need for physical intervention.

I’m a mum of two, two grand-children and have a farming background with my husband. With both my children living in Australia and New Zealand I have the opportunity to travel - I love travelling abroad!
